We had a free day to do what we like in Sin City and so we
knew what we must do… the blog! We really did spend almost the entire day trying
to catch up with the blog as well as: book a flight to Florida, transfer over
3000 pictures from Corrie’s camera to the computer, check e-mails and look up
other things to do in Las Vegas etc.
At about 19:00 we met up with Gill, Stefano and Damian to go
and get some tea in the downtown area. Damian drove us there and said he’d come
for tea with us but had to run some errands after that. We ended up walking to
the Triple 7 Microbrewery which Danny had seen was meant to be fairly good and
cheap. This place was just that and we had a really good fuelling up at this
place. Danny got the beer sampler which was a carousel of 5 ales to try and was
cheap to add to the beery goodness.
We then all headed over to Freemont Street with Damian still
in-toe to catch the LED show which did indeed go off on the hour! It was a
Queen song show and was very worthwhile.
After this we watch Gill have a bit of a gamble before
Damian offered to take us back to the strip where he managed to pull over just
long enough for us four to bail out of the van in front of the Mirage Hotel
& Casino. The reason it was so rushed was because it was about 22:58 and
there is a volcano dhow which goes off every hour after sunset also. This show
was almost on a par with that of the Bellagio water show but this one was with
fire… lots and lots of fire. Again it was set to music but this was dramatic
music rising to a crescendo with the flames becoming more and more intense as
time went on.
We then started to make our way back to the hotel but stopped
in a few of the casinos along the way to see what their insides had to offer
other that ways to get your money. The Venetian was quite nice and had a lovely
painted ceiling in the entrance and we believe Gill had another go at making
her fortune in here too… but failed. After this we went to the very posh Wynn
Casino where we watched dome of the high rollers pour their wealth away into
the welcoming vaults of the casino. One guy we watched bet about $6000 on one
hand of blackjack only to lose and he simply shrugged and carried on
regardless. We were sad to see $20 of our $40 limit slip away on roulette;
Stefano completed our group of losers as his $25 was lost to the only winners
in this town.
Defeated we all shared a taxi back to the hotel… Oh, where we
played another $5 that was matched by the hotel and lost this too!
