We started our morning with a short stroll to the southern
beach of the lake where we took in the vastness of the waters before making our
way back to the hotel to check out.
We then wanted to find a visitor centre for info on the best
viewpoints etc but we failed miserable in this task – The first centre we found
was closed and we took a 20 minute detour drive because of this (the views
along the mountain road were pretty cool though so we didn’t mind.)
We then stopped at a historic site to have a walk around;
this site was closed for the season but we could still wander through it. We
made our way to the lake again and chatted to a local who had set up shop for
the day in a fold out chair as his dog sunbathed beside him. After a while we
decided we should get on our way from here.
We worked our way up the West of Lake Tahoe, stopping
regularly at vista points offering great views of the lake. Eventually we made
it to Lake Tahoe city which is when we began to leave this lovely part of the
US and make our way towards San Francisco.
The majority of the drive to SF was very nice and we made a
few stops at viewpoints along this route also. To get into the city itself we
drove across the top of the extremely long Bay Bridge (Traffic leaving the city
drives on the lower tier of the bridge.)
We made it to the hotel relatively quickly and with minimal
hassle (Danny had been preparing himself for a final gibberish route by the GPS
but it behaved!) and then parked the car for an overnight stay in the car park
next door before going to check into our hostel.
For tea we managed to find a really good Thai restaurant
close by.
