Day 190 - Silly Weather

Last night proved itself to be a struggle for both of us as the incredible heat in the room took its toll. We had the single fan though it had almost no effect on lowering the temperature. We have figured that we may have lucked-out with the hottest sweat-box in the entire building. We decided to get another fan for tonight once we’d had our day out.

Today we thought we’d head over to Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team and also check out the historic buildings in the area. The main reason we included Boston on our list was mainly due to Danny’s insistence that we visit the legendary stadium but we thought we’d still have a look around seeing as we are here.

As we made our way down the street we, and many other pedestrians, couldn’t help but notice the extremely ominous looking dark clouds rolling towards us. On seeing these bringers of gloom we decided to make the library our first stop as it was much closer than Fenway and if the heavens did open then we’d be indoors.

In the eerie silence of the long, book-filled, wooden furnished main hall of the library we sat amongst a scattering of others all about their various books and work. The only sounds puncturing this silence were the roaring crashes of thunder, gradually getting louder, along with the faint pattering of rain on the rooftops and the odd cough/ sneeze or shuffling of a chair against the wood flooring. We spent a long time in here as we waited for the storm to pass; a very long time so it was handy that we’d each packed something to read in our daypacks.

Eventually we saw a break in the storm and so made a dash for the hotel. We figured time was getting on anyway and we would have a second shot at Fenway tomorrow if the forecast was to be believed. We popped into a local store and managed to purchase a baguette sandwich to share for our tea tonight. Almost back at our hotel we felt the droplets of rain begin to fall once more and so were glad we’d opted to head back to here.

The rest of the evening was spent sweating away, with 2 fans being almost as useless as one. During the night Danny was tempted to request a room change as the heat was just so intense. We both agree that this hotel room has been the hottest and most uncomfortable one on our travels; why there is no air-con in this place we cannot fathom.
