Day 189 - New York to Boston

We had to be up and away by 09:30 as we had a train to catch. This train would take us on the 4 hour journey to Boston, Massachusetts.

On arriving in Back Bay, Boston we walked the mile or so walk to our accommodation and checked in. The temperatures here were just as ridiculously high as back in NY but this room of ours has no air-con, just a fan – nightmare! After some serious budget checking we have deduced that, minus all our accommodation and rental cars etc, we’ll have a daily budget of about $7! Even Subway could not cater to our needs now and so we set off in search of cheap food. After picking up and putting back down many items (we could only choose from things that are edible instantly or keep well in heat) we were almost ready to give up. The best things we’d found were: a large tin of tuna chunks at $6, a very pathetic looking sandwich in a packet for the reasonable sum of $4, or assorted crisps and snacks. We also had gotten hold of a huge 2.5 gallons of water for $3 which will hopefully last us the 3 night’s stay here. Oh and with regards to our tea we opted for the half gallon of chocolate chip ice cream to share for $6!

The rest of the evening was spent looking for cheap things to do etc. We looked into getting tickets for a Red Sox game but these are hard to come by. This is due to their small stadium that gets sell-out sales every game. This stadium though is meant to offer one of, if not the best atmospheres in baseball and with all its history you soon see how the 37, 400 capacity ground is so popular. We managed to find a pair of reasonably priced ($30 each) tickets but then had our hopes dashed as we have no means of printing them out here. We then looked into going to the stadium on the day to buy the tickets but this looks like a bit of an epic. Tickets go on sale 90 mins prior to the start of the game though people will queue up to 5 hours before to get them! We’ll walk to the stadium tomorrow and have a look to see what’s what; we may try and get on the stadium tour instead. We also have to find a printer at some point if we have any hope of getting on the flight to Montreal!
