We cut off and made our way along the street until we got to
the iconic building (also used in the Spider-man movies.)
Satisfied with the picture taking we then went into Madison
Square Park where we came across the immensely popular Shake Shack. It has been
so long since we last had a good thick shake and so we joined the 10 minute
long cue to purchase a chocolate one… and some crinkle cut fries also. The
shake was good, very good in fact but we can’t help but compare it to the ones
of Wendy’s in Australia; which we think will forever be the standard set for
all shakes.
As we could see it from here we opted to go to the Empire
State Building so Danny could make his way to the top whilst Corrie waited down
below. Luckily we weren’t fooled by all the tour people outside selling “fast
pass” tickets for $10 over the normal entrance fee outside as they didn’t allow
any skipping of the lines once inside (many disgruntled people had bought these
tickets though, and they were not happy!) Danny was well impressed with the
observation deck up at the 86th floor as it was a complete 360
degree walk around viewing balcony and the railings offered holes big enough to
take pictures through easily. Admittedly the views from the top of the rock are
good, maybe even better as there is more of central park and you can see the
ESB, but to us both you get more for your money at the slightly busier ESB.
Back down on street level Danny met Corrie who had been
reading her book back down the road at Madison Square Park. She also saw a red
squirrel (well what she thinks is a red squirrel as it was much redder than all
the other squirrels there) but has no picture evidence as Danny had the camera!
We were both pretty tired now from all the walking in the
heat and so made just one more stop at Danny’s request – the midtown comic book
store. After a perusal around the shelves we made our way back to the apartment
to relax for the rest of the evening.
