A short night’s sleep as we had set the alarm for 06:00 as
we were due to arrive in Edmonton station at 06:30. We both sat with the blind
up, watching the world go by as half past approached… then we waited some more.
About an hour went by before an announcement was made saying that we were
behind schedule and would actually be arriving in Edmonton at about 09:00 due
to heavy freight traffic during the early hours.
After collecting our bags and catching a taxi to the hotel
we really didn’t do too much for the rest of the day. We had to come up with a
route to take when we pick up the hire car in a couple of days’ time and so a
bit of time was spent doing this. We have to spend more time than we’d wanted
in Edmonton due to the hire car companies’ opening times etc and so the only
thing we really had planned to check out here is the West Edmonton Mall. We
decided to leave this until tomorrow though so the rest of today was slightly
on the uninteresting side.
After nipping out for tea we discovered that Edmonton is
home to many mosquitoes and we’re assuming this will be the same in all the
areas we’ll be visiting in the next week – oh man!
