After a short lie-in we made our way to the supermarket for
lunch and tea supplies, also getting some more water for the walk we’d be going
on later.
This was followed by sunbathing next to the pool, which
turned into sunbathing in the pool
due to the crazy hot weather we’re having.
We had a late lunch and then caught the bus to the start of
The Forts Walk. This was a very scenic 2.8km round trip with lots of photo
opportunities for Corrie. The walk was very hilly which didn’t go down well
with us but the views definitely made up for this. Unfortunately we didn’t
manage to spot any koalas out there but we did see a couple of wallabies.
There’s lots of info about the history of the island and its part in helping
defend Townsville during WW2; with lots of the buildings and gun mounts still
standing.
After the walk we went back to the hostel to
have a well-deserved ice-cream each (courtesy of the $10 Corrie found on the
walk!) We then freshened up before going to make our cheapo meals in the camp
kitchen.
