Day 22 - Off to Rockhampton

Ergh, up at 05:30 this morning and it was not appreciated; the breakfast, however, was! We had our bush beans (baked beans) and toast (with vegemite for Corrie and jam for Dan) before setting off to Rockhampton.

Some of the views you can see whilst driving from place to place here are pretty awesome, as well as spotting wild roos etc, the scenery’s pretty impressive. It makes it harder to sleep on the buses as you want to take in all the views on the journey too.

Just before we were dropped off we all got taken to Rochampton’s botanical gardens, where we had a look around the free zoo there. This wasn’t amazing as we’d already seen most things there; lots of them in the wild.

We were picked up by a little crazy man who took us to the YHA hostel, and then this man turned out to be our receptionist also! Once checked in we both took greatly needed showers to rid us of the: dust, sweat, goat poo, and animal stink. We then did some washing to rid our clothes of the: dust, sweat, goat poo, and animal stink!

We walked about 20 mins to the supermarket where we stocked up on some sandwich supplies and drinks etc for the next couple of days. We can do this now as we actually have a fridge in our room so our food will keep better.

Back at the hostel and after lunch Corrie decided to read for a bit; Danny simply passed out on the bed for the next hour and a half or so.

At about 17:30 we got ready to get a shuttle that would take us to The Great Western (pub/ restaurant/ steakhouse/ rodeo.) Here we had our tea and got to watch some of the practice bull riding. Most of the riding was done by kids, which shocked Corrie somewhat. This was slightly worrying when the first one stayed on the floor for 5 mins after he came off and a lot of others limped off or clutched their stomachs! The aim is to stay on for 8 seconds, after which you can dismount… A couple of them actually managed this and were duly applauded. It made us laugh when the commentator offered parents the chance to sign their kids up for a lesson, including riding a bull!

After this and a couple of schooners we walked back the two or so kilometres to the hostel for an early night.
