Day 90 - Helicopter Flight over the Volcano

Today we got up and were ready to leave at 09:00 because Judy and Paul had booked the four of us onto a scenic helicopter flight from New Plymouth to the volcano and back.

This was a great trip out, the flight was amazing and the views were pretty impressive to say the least. The weather was good which made for better views of everything; one of the best of which was as the helicopter flew above a layer of thick cloud we could see the tip of Mount Taranaki punching through it. This view made the huge dormant volcano look like a small hill with the layer of cloud shrouding the huge slopes below. It seemed as though we got very close to the summit though we must have been fairly far from it as the crazy people we spotted on its peak looked like ants. The half hour trip was well worth it and it was sad to have to land but thanks to Paul and Judy we can re-live the flight in HD as we have it on memory stick.

Back at the house we didn’t do much for the rest of the day and caught up with things like the blog etc whilst the internet was available.

We had a lovely chilli for tea then played a game of Quiddler before bed; the rules of which had been changed since the last time we stayed much to Danny’s dismay, though Paul’s score remained the same… poor!
